Light up the living room

I’ve been looking for a stylish new floor lamp for the living room since last winter. I want to replace the cheap torchiere floor lamp from a big box hardware store behind my favorite chair. You know the type, it’s functional, but it’s boring! Besides, I’m pushing 50 and I need a good task light, on that will keep me working on my embroidery and crochet projects past sundown. I’ve found the perfect lamp; it’s the Pappa Bear of our favorite desk lamp. It’s Land of Nod’s Wow, That’s a Big Lamp! It’s great, isn’t it? The only downside to this lamp is the $299 price tag. With one off to college in 2 months, spending that kind of money just isn’t in the budget. I also love this one that I found on the Crate and Barrel website; I like that it looks a little industrial. The Sylvester floor lamp is the priciest of all my dream lights; it’s a cool $399. I like this Beam Floor Lamp from CB2; it’s so very grown …

Introducing Modern June Art

I finally did it; I opened up a Society6 shop called Modern June Art.  Yesterday I posted two apple watercolors that I painted earlier this month. I’m going to try and upload a few pieces every week. I’m excited to buy a few things for myself, like this stretched canvas print that I’m calling Apple Baskets! I painted this one after going to Carter Mountain Orchard; I’d like to have an apple picking day that included pretty baskets filled with delicious apples. My first purchase has to be two of these outdoor pillows with my Perfect Apple watercolor. It’ll be my payday treat!! I think that a couple of giant apple pillows will be a great addition to the front porch for fall. I’m excited to start this next chapter of Modern June!

Shop Local: Class and Trash

Class and Trash is one of my all time favorite places on earth. So when I was down in the dumps on Sunday — and I wasn’t really digging my teenage kids so much — Mr. Modern June took me to my happy place. It’s about 15 miles north of Richmond, VA on Route 1 and worth every minute! It’s filled with thrifty finds, antiques and collectables both inside and out. Downstairs is filled with Lisa’s finds and upstairs has rental booths. Here are a few of my favorite finds! This old chicken roost is awesome!! I can see it hanging on my wall and filled with crafty supplies at MJHG! Tee hee hee, I just had to grab a few ceramic chickens from the booths around me so I could trick it out this photo. I just want everyone to know the restraint it took not to bring all of this home!! I seem to have started collecting chickens recently. When I look at this pile of spindles I think about Nicole Curtis from …
