the homebody’s guide to self-care

I was wondering around my bloglovin’ feed last week, and there was a post titled THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOUR HOME MIGHT BE MISSING. Well alright then, I’m always down for some good click bait! So off to the Camile Styles website I went, there I found a photo of a glamorous bathroom and a mood board of pretty things to make taking a bath more enjoyable. Yah, yah, whatever. I don’t have a fancy bathroom, and a beautiful plank of wood (bathtub tray) isn’t going to help much. Our only bathroom is teeny all the highlighted items in the post would just need to be stored somewhere out of the way.  Not glamorous! But, I did something that I don’t normally do, I read the article. Shocking, right? In the introduction, the author, Cristina Cleveland, talks about what she and her co-workers do for self-care. I was shocked that the list didn’t include the oil diffuser or the exfoliator that she linked to. Now, hold on a minute, cuz this was profound for me. …

WIP Wednesday: Fractal Quilt

I recently started sewing again, and I’ve been in the mood to quilt. Even though I’ve been sewing since I was 12, I’ve only made one quilt. I made a quilt for my book At Home with Modern June. That quilt was a simple quilt that I made with 5″ scrapes, and it was similar to a 1970’s crazy quilt that my Grr (Grandma) gave me when I was just out of college. I found myself intrigued with Alexandra Winston’s book Quilt Lab, and her Fractal Quilt pattern kept lingering in my mind. I was able to meet her at a Quilt Market when out C&T Publishing books came out in 201?. Last Saturday I set out to start two identical quilts one for my son, Aidan, and another for my brother. My brother, Steve, is a mathematics professor, so a fractal quilt seemed like the perfect fit. Once I got into my second day …

WIP Wednesday: Hexies and Patchwork

I haven’t sewn much since I stopped taking orders last December. It took a long time to even want to sit at a sewing machine. Once I had the need to sew, I made myself a to-do list that I HAD to get done before I could start something. I’ve really missed sitting at my sewing machine, putting on my headphones and listening to TV on Netflix. It’s like an escape from my normal life. Right now I’m rewatching/listening to Life. Love me some Damian Lewis!! I have a couple of projects in the works right now. Yesterday I started making a fun and easy quilt for my hammock, it’ll tie on and it might even have a pocket or two. I’m hoping to have it done for the fall lounging season, it’s way too hot for it now. I’m using a pretty little fabric called Little Ruby by Bonnie and Camille that design fabric for Moda. I bought 2 jelly rolls and I making a rail step quilt top. I’m also playing around with …
